Our program was designed to:
• offer a home like environment that provides for the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of the infants and toddlers in our care;
• provide an environment that offers spaces for both quiet and active explorations and a wide range of developmentally appropriate opportunities for learning; and
• offer care-giving that emulates the love and respect of their family.
Although we could never truly emulate the deep love and respect of a child’s family, with time all Escuela Viva children become an extension of our family. We come to develop deep lasting relationships with the children in our care and do our best to capture this in our daily documentation.
Our schedule:
Infants and young toddlers need responsive caregivers who understand that a routine is so very important for children of all ages; yet a set schedule is not developmentally appropriate for children under two. As responsive caregivers we follow the rhythms of our infants and toddlers. As such our care-giving follows this rhythm, understanding that any of this may differ for any or all of the children on any given day:
8:00 Arrival / Morning transition
8:15 Snack is offered/breakfast if needed
8:30 Diapering/ transition to activity, Fine motor activity offered
Puzzles, building materials
9:00 Music and story-telling is offered
9:30 Outside activity Gross Motor
10:15 Snack is offered
10:30 Diapering/Transition quiet activity/Books and Sleep
Noon Diapering/Transition to Lunch
12:30 More music and books
1:00 Sensory motor activites, playdough, waterbed time
1:30 Diapering/transition to outside
2:15 Snack is offered
2:30 Free choice: fine/indoor gross/sensory motor
3:00 Diapering/Books: quiet activity/Transition to sleep
4:30 Transition for home: Snack/Outside or indoor gross motor
