Healthy Spirits, Open Hearts, Active Minds
At Escuela Viva we strive to teach our children to value
themselves and others. We do this by teaching and encouraging them to
have healthy spirits, open hearts, and active minds.
We provide morning snack, lunch, and afternoon
snack for our children. We offer a balanced menu of wholesome mostly
organic foods. Our children are given opportunities to participate in outside
activities each day, rain or shine. These activities include playing
in our on-site play area, going to the park (where available), gardening,
and going on nature walks. We also go on field trips as they relate
to what we are learning in our classes.
We encourage our children to be open to themselves and
those around them. Our four classroom rules are:
- Be safe
- Respect
others
- Respect yourself
- Have fun.
As most of us encounter conflict
in all aspects of our lives we teach our children how to resolve their
own conflicts as they arise. Due to the individual needs of our children
we encourage this in many ways. Here are some examples: drinking water,
tortuga (turtle), communication, taking breaks.
At Escuela Viva we use the "Reggio Emillia"
and "Education for Life" philosophies. These two philosophies combined
allow us to create a curriculum that is based on the interests and needs
of our children. Our children are encouraged to pursue their personal
interests in creating projects and activities. They are encouraged to
explore the answers to their questions through research, experimentation
and exploration.
In order to be effective teachers we must have consistency between home and school.
We offer a variety of means for achieving this goal; open communication, conferences,
emails, parent’s meetings, newsletters, committees, and study groups.
We value your input. Parents are key to the success of Escuela Viva.
